Black Eyed Peas’ apl.de.ap Opens Filipino Restaurant in London

Filipino-American rapper and singer apl.de.ap, of the Grammy-winning group Black Eyed Peas, has ventured into the culinary world with the opening of Turo Turo, a Filipino barbecue and grill restaurant in Tooting Broadway, London.

Announcing the milestone on social media, apl.de.ap, born Allan Pineda, shared the inspiration behind this project. The idea sparked over a year ago when he first tasted the creations of Chef Rex de Guzman, founder of Turo Turo UK.

"This is a picture from the first time I ever got to taste @chefrexdeguzman food. It was located atop a bar with karaoke rooms, and I was there with my team getting ready for Masterchef. The food was amazing. Nothing over the top. Nothing pretentiously plated and overpriced. Just good comfort food and BBQ," apl.de.ap wrote.

The collaboration grew from a simple conversation into a vision for a permanent establishment, culminating in Turo Turo’s launch. "Over the next year and a half, we began talking about how to open @turoturouk into a permanent standalone. I’m proud to say we’re here," he shared.

Serving authentic Filipino cuisine, Turo Turo features dishes like kare-kare (a savory peanut stew), prawn ginataan (a creamy coconut milk dish), and its standout specialty—grilled chicken inasal.

The restaurant reflects apl.de.ap’s Filipino heritage, highlighting his passion for sharing the flavors of the Philippines with a global audience. The Black Eyed Peas’ official Facebook page also celebrated his achievement, applauding his newest venture.

Now open in Tooting Broadway, Turo Turo invites Londoners and food enthusiasts to experience the warmth of Filipino comfort food. “If you’re in London, please check us out!” apl.de.ap encouraged his followers.
