DOT Expresses Gratitude to Global Travelers, Urges Responsible Tourism After PH Islands Earn Top Spots

Manila, Philippines – The Department of Tourism (DOT) has expressed deep gratitude to international travelers after the Philippines secured top spots in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler 2024 Readers' Choice Awards, which named four of the country's islands among Asia’s top 10.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco thanked global tourists for their continuous support, emphasizing that their enthusiasm has helped elevate the Philippines as a premier island destination. The country is the only one in Southeast Asia to have four islands recognized in the top 10, further solidifying its reputation as Asia’s leading island destination, as recognized by the World Travel Awards.

“We are immensely grateful to global travelers who have chosen the Philippines and continue to explore the natural beauty and vibrant culture of our islands,” said Secretary Frasco. “These accolades reflect not only the unparalleled beauty of our islands but also the rich and diverse experiences they offer, from cultural heritage to world-class cuisine.”


Boracay, Palawan, Cebu & the Visayan Islands, and Siargao were recognized, with Boracay ranking third in Asia and ninth globally. The other islands also earned high positions, reinforcing the Philippines’ reputation for its scenic views, rich cultural diversity, and exceptional cuisine.

Secretary Frasco also urged travelers to practice responsible tourism, emphasizing the need to preserve the islands' natural beauty and ecosystems. “We invite everyone to safeguard these destinations through responsible tourism practices,” she added.


The DOT is committed to promoting sustainable tourism, working closely with regional offices, local governments, and stakeholders to protect the country's natural and cultural heritage while enhancing the visitor experience. “Together, we can inspire and secure a sustainable future for Philippine tourism,” Frasco concluded.
