Dubai Airports to Launch AI-Driven System for Document-Free Travel

DUBAI – Dubai airports are set to revolutionize air travel with the introduction of an AI-powered system that will allow passengers to pass through airport checkpoints without the need for physical documents. The "Travel Without Borders" project, announced by Lieutenant Colonel Khaled bin Madia Al Falasi, Deputy Assistant Director for Smart Services at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA Dubai), will use facial recognition technology to identify and verify travelers' biometric data as they move through the airport.

Initially, the innovative system will be rolled out for business and first-class passengers at Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC), with plans to expand it to all passengers in the future. The AI cameras will eliminate the need for counters, gates, or manual immigration checks, offering a completely seamless travel experience.

Unlike the current smart gates that require brief stops for scanning, the new system will allow passengers to move freely through the airport without stopping. First-time visitors will need to pre-register through an app, ensuring a smooth integration of their biometric data into the system. This project, developed in collaboration with airlines and other stakeholders, is expected to launch soon, marking a significant advancement in airport efficiency and convenience.
