Ilocos Norte is inviting travelers to explore nine breathtaking road trip destinations, perfect for an exciting summer getaway. With improved roads and tourism facilities, the province continues to captivate visitors seeking adventure, relaxation, and stunning scenery.
Among the top destinations are the coastal roads of Currimao featuring the enchanting Currilights, the lush Ar-aroo Picnic Grove and Darna Falls in Dumalneg, and the scenic Ilocos Norte-Abra Road in Nueva Era. Travelers can also set their sights on Mount Lammin, an Arabica coffee haven with rocky trails, the multi-tiered Abang Falls in Bangui, and the serene Caunayan Bay in Pagudpudâfondly called the âLittle Batanes of the North.â Another hidden gem is the Upper Dam of Vintar, which offers spectacular mountain views and a refreshing dip in the cool waters of Bislak River.
Currimao, located about 459 kilometers from Manila, is a coastal town rich in history and charm. Its seawall boulevard and fishermanâs wharf are particularly magical at sunset, when 220 lamppostsânicknamed âCurrilightsââilluminate the shoreline like tiny lighthouses. Visitors can also explore the remnants of the Tabacalera and Spanish lighthouse ruins, which stand as reminders of the townâs rich cultural heritage.
For those seeking tranquility, Dumalnegâs Ar-aroo Picnic Grove and Darna Falls offer an escape into nature, featuring lush surroundings and the cool waters of Bolo River. The site, managed by the municipal government and the Isneg tribal community, provides camping facilities, comfort rooms, electricity, and security for a minimal entrance fee of PHP20.
Motorists looking for scenic drives can take the Ilocos Norte-Abra Road, which reaches a breathtaking elevation of 953 meters above sea level, offering panoramic views of pine forests and rolling landscapes.
Meanwhile, Mount Lammin, nestled within Piddig and Carasi, has become a hotspot for nature lovers and coffee enthusiasts. Home to the largest Arabica coffee plantation, it features a challenging yet rewarding 24-kilometer trek, where hikers can savor stunning views and even spend the night camping.
Adventure seekers will also find thrills at Banguiâs Abang Falls, a mesmerizing cascade with 24 layered basins. With ongoing improvements by local authorities, visitors can enjoy swimming in designated areas while eco-adventure enthusiasts can explore nearby trails.
To enhance the summer experience, Ilocos Norte has deployed 400 additional tourism workers across key attractions, ensuring seamless assistance for visitors. Provincial tourism officer Aian Raquel shared that the season is expected to be busier than ever, with multiple events and celebrations driving increased tourism.
With its vibrant landscapes, cultural heritage, and enhanced visitor services, Ilocos Norte remains a prime summer destination, welcoming adventurers eager to explore its natural wonders.
