Some of the best business ideas come from unexpected moments. For the founders of Sweet Blooms, a simple gift to a mother-in-law led to a thriving enterprise of handcrafted edible flowers made from pastillas.

Sweet Blooms started when Mrs. May Tiburcio De Vera gifted flowers to her mother-in-law, who then shared them with friends. Orders started coming in unexpectedly, prompting the couple to invest P5,000 in a Valentine’s bazaar. Working tirelessly, they handcrafted the pastillas flowers. They thought they had enough stock for seven days, but to their surprise, everything sold out on the first day. Customers were intrigued—mistaking them for candles or fondant—but quickly embraced the unique concept. The couple worked up to 20 hours daily just to restock.
From a two-person team, Sweet Blooms grew significantly. During peak seasons, they produce 20,000 flowers daily with 60 staff in their commissary, plus sales and delivery personnel. The pandemic halted operations, but they successfully restarted, adapting to online ordering through platforms like Foodpanda and Facebook. Now, Sweet Blooms has branches in SM North EDSA, SM Megamall, and SM Manila, making their products more accessible.

Each pastillas flower lasts up to 90 days, making it a beautiful and practical gift. "You can admire it before you eat it," Mrs. May Tiburcio De Vera quipped.
As Valentine’s Day approaches, Sweet Blooms is ready to help customers spread love. Their products are available in stores, online, and at special bazaars from February 1-14. Nationwide distributors in Davao, General Santos, Cavite, and Pampanga make their confections more accessible.
"For just P25, you can make someone’s day—be it a friend, officemate, or crush. And for loved ones, we have special bouquets available online and in-store," Mrs. May Tiburcio De Vera shared. With its heartwarming origins and dedication to quality, Sweet Blooms proves that the sweetest successes often come from the simplest beginnings.
