Updated: Dec 20, 2022

By: Regine Guevara

Sakura Collection represents the versatile nature of Asian-African designs, as the artists take a unique turn in fashion with flower arrangement. The kimono is a traditional Japanese garment and the national dress of Japan. Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. The Sakura-Ikebana is a limited edition collection of 7 hand-painted kimonos, in collaboration with an ikebanist’s flower demonstrations, bringing life into one’s every day fabric.

Manged by AsiaTV Studios, Xander Pratt, CNN’s Top Ten Avant Garde artists in Africa. Throughout his travels around both regions which became his homes, this modern afro-kimono collection stands as his fingerprint in the Global South. This follows “Our New World” Exhibition in Africa, in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco, with an intention to advocate climate action and the power of Unity in the face of global environmental challenges. The collection is Unisex, allowing each Gender the vehicle to Express these pieces through their own peace. The closed neck and long-sleeved designs are deeply inspired by Xander’s fascination with the Kingdom, its enchanting vibrations and ancient architecture.

“For me each wall within the ancient medinas of the kingdom tells a story, just as much as my Pieces have a story that is yet to be told by He/She that inhabits them, because in the end this is a transferal of energy, weaving my heart and thoughts into a garment, only for it to take the form of its wearer.

“ From being raised by a Single Mother, I now find how important It is for males to not shy away from embracing their inherent feminine energy, the energy of the Mother, in order to do this one does not relinquish strength, rather, they give birth to Nurture, creativity and a profound respect for life,” says Xander Pratt.

Featuring Ikebana designs from Mdme. Carissa Singson from the Ikebana Manila Chapter, 10% of the proceeds will go to a charity of choice. The Sakura Collection arrives in Manila this Christmas season, ranging from $500–1,000. For orders and collaborations, kindly email tv@peacenetwork.asia.
